EWCC News

Spring 2024 EWCC Language Lab Tutorial Series Successfully Concluded

The English Writing and Communication Centre (EWCC) is pleased to report the successful completion of the Spring 2024 Language Lab Tutorial Series. This initiative, entitled “Words Matter,” was facilitated by our EWCC tutors.

In Spring 2024, the EWCC introduced an invigorating suite of academic activities under the theme “Words Matter,” which included a dynamic chatroom series, a comprehensive academic tutorial series, and two engaging competitions aimed at enriching the academic experience of our students.

The tutorial series was designed to enhance students’ proficiency in language usage and to foster critical thinking skills. The curriculum was segmented into four focused modules: 1) Sentence Building, 2) Identification of Common Fallacies, 3) Critical Reading and Analysis, and 4) Critical Writing and Evaluation. Each module was designed to build on the previous, ensuring a coherent and cumulative learning experience.

Leveraging interactive lectures and participatory activities, the tutorials succeeded in actively engaging students, who found the sessions beneficial. Participants reported significant improvements in their foundational language skills and analytical thinking processes. Furthermore, the tutorials served as an excellent platform for students to practice and enhance their English communication in an academic environment.

This series proved to be a remarkable opportunity for college students to advance their language acquisition and engage in meaningful communication with tutors and peers.

FALL 2023 Academic Workshop Series Successfully Concluded

The ELC is thrilled to announce that the English Academic Workshop Series, hosted by the EWCC tutors, was successfully concluded.

The ELC welcomed a series of English Academic Workshops, themed “Beyond Words”, in September 2023. The series included Email Writing, Reading for University, SQ3R Reading Skills, and Effective Intercultural Communication. The workshops aimed at allowing students to have an all-around English language development and gain practical skills for university study.

The students were highly engaged in the workshop, especially in the activities. Hands-on tasks are assigned to students, which allow them to put theories into practice. The students unleashed their creativity and shared their work with their peers. Overall, the activities provided a good platform for the students to get along with their schoolmates.

The English Academic Workshop Series is successfully concluded with all the support from our teachers and students. The ELC is happy to see our college students immersing themselves in an English environment, working with their peers, and expressing themselves in English.

FALL 2023 Open House Successfully Concluded

EWCC Open House successfully concluded

EWCC kicked off the month with the Open House event on 11th October, which was a huge success. The Open House event aimed at allowing students to learn more about our center, including our services and activities.

We were thrilled to see many students visiting our center, whether they were seeking English learning advice or just having fun through English interactive activities. The energy and engagement of the students at the event were amazing.

Learning a language does not have to be dull. The EWCC Open House event provided a platform for our students to engage in our English interactive activities and learn English while having fun. We were also happy to see students of various disciplines and levels bringing up language learning questions, exchanging experiences and ideas, and learning from each other.

This year, EWCC proposed a “Lemon Tea DIY experience” for charity purposes. Students can get the chance to make their own lemon tea with any amount of donations (100% of the money is donated directly to the animal rescue organizations). Besides offering help to animal rescue organizations, the main purpose is to familiarize students with the harmful consequences of pet abandonment and the hard work of the organizations.

The Open House event was a great way to share information about our consultation services and upcoming activities, which will bring students invaluable opportunities to improve their English proficiency.
